Wandsworth Athletic 7 - 7 Sanchez

An update on last week's game

Wandsworth Athletic dropped points for the first time this season, with Sanchez cruelly equalising with the very last kick of the game.

In truth, it was an average display from the champions, who completed a smash-and-grab of their own against the same opposition last season. That was an emphatic victory which set up a glorious title run. This was less dramatic, but still a harsh blow. Wandsworth never really got going against a strong side and indeed found themselves 6-4 down heading into the final quarter of the game.

The quality may not have been high, but this team never knows when it’s beaten. If the football was patchy, the determination and will-power was unrelenting. Wandsworth hauled themselves into a winning position, only to see Sanchez’s silver-haired shooter rifle home an unstoppable drive in the very last second.

Sanchez probably merited their point, and Wandsworth will look to bounce back strongly next time out.
