Cult Hero - Clive Platt

Born in Wolverhampton, and standing 6 feet 4 inches tall, Clive Linton Platt has been menacing league defenders for the past 14 years.

Short on natural finishing prowess, but high on strength, energy and nous, Platt began his career at Walsall before securing a big £100,000 move (a club record at the time) to high flying Rochdale. Spells at Notts County, Peterborough and MK Dons followed, before Platt found himself breaking another transfer record (£300,000) with a move to Colchester United in 2007 – Platt is still playing for The U’s, and to date has notched up a credible 7 goals this season (2009/10).

A career record of 93 strikes in 458 games may not read favourably on paper, but Platt offers so much more. And who can forget his memorable 2006/07 season with MK Dons, when the muscular Midlander smashed home an impressive 18 goals in a promotion winning season…

  1. A truly deserved recipient of the inaugural ‘cult hero’ award. Brother Clive was performing the selfless ‘non scoring striker who brings others into play’ role way before Emile Heskey made it en vogue. His strike partner Kevin ‘born goal scorer’ Lisbie may hog all the headlines, but Clive is the real talent of the partnership
